While Google Fi Wireless doesn’t have the same household name as Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile, Google is taking big steps to change that.

The company has just announced a series of upgrades for its wireless service — and yes, they’re powered by AI. But unlike many tech buzzwords, these features actually look practical and are aimed at making everyday use simpler and more convenient.

Smarter connectivity and a redesigned experience

According to Google’s announcement on The Keyword blog, Fi Wireless plans are gaining several enhancements designed to fix common mobile frustrations. One of the biggest changes is a refreshed interface with full RCS support for web-based calls and messaging. That means you can send high-quality photos and videos, exchange texts, and even check voicemails right from your computer or tablet — no phone required.

Google is also expanding its Auto Connect+ feature, currently supported on Pixel 5a and newer devices. This feature automatically connects your phone to premium Wi-Fi networks whenever cellular coverage dips, providing faster speeds and more stable connections in crowded places like airports and malls.

According to Google, Auto Connect+ makes connections up to twice as reliable as cellular alone — and it even encrypts your activity for added privacy. The feature will now be available in millions of new locations, including major airports like LAX and JFK, and it comes at no additional cost.

AI-powered call clarity and billing summaries

Another welcome addition is AI-enhanced call quality. Similar to noise-canceling features found in popular video conferencing apps, Google Fi will now automatically reduce background noise and sharpen voices during calls, making conversations clearer and more natural. The update will roll out in the coming weeks.

The Google Fi app is also getting smarter. New AI-powered billing summaries will break down your monthly charges and explain how any recent plan changes affect future bills — helping you skip the long customer service calls.

A limited-time offer for new users

To sweeten the deal, Google is running a promotion for new subscribers. Those who bring their own phone and sign up for the Unlimited Essentials or Unlimited Standard plan will get 50% off for 15 months — a substantial discount for anyone curious to try the upgraded service.

All of these updates are scheduled to arrive on devices starting this December.
