Katz speaks of blending the vigor of post-war US painters with the sophistication of European artists like Cézanne and Bonnard. O’Hara’s description of Katz’s art evokes a world of smoothly painted colors where figures exist without clear boundaries, neither existential nor lost. 

This symbiosis between art and poetry isn't new; historical examples include Titian's collaboration with poet Pietro Aretino and Picasso's affinity for poets like Guillaume Apollinaire and Jean Cocteau. 

 Today, artists like Alberta Whittle and Rachel Whiteread continue to collaborate with writers and poets, recognizing the richness of this relationship. Their pursuit of poetic qualities in art, whether it's through spare eloquence or emotional depth, remains a driving force in this enduring symbiosis, shaping the trajectory of art history.
