The Chiefs are 5-0 — and their offense may be returning to their dynastic heights - BERITAJA

The Kansas City Chiefs your older related told you about whitethorn yet beryllium back.

The Chiefs improved to 5-0 pinch a 22-6 triumph complete the Los Angeles Chargers connected Sunday, and the Patrick Mahomes-led discourtesy that erstwhile ran roughshod complete the NFL appears to person returned successful about afloat force.

From 2018 (the twelvemonth Mahomes became Kansas City’s starting quarterback) to 2022, the Chiefs classed first successful expected points added per play connected discourtesy complete those 5 mixed seasons, per RBSDM.com, a website that specializes successful precocious analytics. In that time, Kansas City won 2 Super Bowls while Mahomes won 2 regular play MVPs.

From 2023 done 2025, however, the Chiefs classed only 10th successful violative EPA, taking a important measurement backward. Kansas City still managed to triumph 1 much title during those 3 seasons. But successful that time, the Chiefs besides suffered a humiliating Super Bowl loss successful which their discourtesy crumbled, and past play the squad started 6-7 earlier Mahomes tore his ACL, and yet missed the playoffs.

Now, successful 2026, Mahomes and the Chiefs are undefeated done 5 games for only the 3rd clip successful the quarterback’s career, and the discourtesy overmuch much intimately resembles the heights of his torrid five-year commencement compared to the much caller three-season malaise.

Entering Week 6, Kansas City classed 4th successful the NFL successful EPA per play connected offense, which would beryllium the team’s champion decorativeness since the 2022 campaign. The Chiefs besides entered the week classed 2nd successful EPA per rush, which would beryllium the team’s champion people this decade.

There are respective reasons for the offense’s stellar capacity done 5 games.

Mahomes himself has been better, posting his highest yards per effort and passer standing since 2022. Even aft his no-touchdown, one-interception crippled against the Chargers, Mahomes is connected gait to propulsion 32 touchdowns this year, which would beryllium his highest full since (you guessed it!) 2022.

Meanwhile, Kansas City is besides getting a awesome boost from moving backmost Kenneth Walker III, who signed pinch the squad earlier the play caller disconnected winning Super Bowl MVP pinch the Seattle Seahawks.

Walker has rushed for astatine slightest 1 touchdown successful each crippled but 1 truthful acold this season. After moving for 128 yards and 2 scores against Los Angeles, Walker has amassed 655 yards and six touchdowns connected the ground, while besides adding 2 TDs arsenic a receiver.

“He’s a stud,” coach Andy Reid told reporters postgame. “He knows really to tally the ball, knows really to group up runs. There’s an creation to that, and patience that you’ve sewage to have, and vision, and each those things that the awesome ones have. He’s sewage each of that, and he’s tough. He’s a reliable kid.”

Walker’s first 5 games person put him successful elite company. He’s only the 3rd subordinate this millennium to person astatine slightest 750 scrimmage yards and 8 touchdowns done the first 5 games of the season, according to NFL Researcher Tony Holzman-Escareno. Priest Holmes did it successful 2002 and won Offensive Player of the Year. Marshall Faulk did it successful 2000 and won the aforesaid award...as good arsenic MVP.

Walker is besides the first subordinate since Hall-of-Famer Jim Brown successful 1963 pinch astatine slightest 600 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns and aggregate receiving touchdowns done his first 5 games, per Holzman-Escareno.

The discourtesy still whitethorn person different level to reach, according to Walker, who said postgame, “I consciousness for illustration we’re going to get better.”

(On apical of each the violative success, the Chiefs person besides been stingy defensively, allowing only 16.3 points per crippled aft Sunday’s win.)

The past clip Kansas City started 5-0 was successful the 2024 season, erstwhile they vanished the regular play 11-0 successful one-score games, and white-knuckled 2 playoff wins earlier getting blown retired by the Philadelphia Eagles successful the Super Bowl.

But this is an wholly different 5-0, arsenic the Chiefs are now powered by a highly businesslike discourtesy and a could defense. While Kansas City has ever been a perennial title contender nether Mahomes, this year’s squad is overmuch much formidable than the past fewer seasons.

“We had played successful truthful galore Super Bowls, the past fewer we didn’t play our champion successful the regular season,” Mahomes said, saying coming backmost from the ACL wounded has changed his perspective. “Today, for me, is about the process. Having to spell done that rehab process and not play football, has really made maine bask the process of it.”

He added: “You want to return advantage of each opportunity you get to measurement connected the field.”
